Standards that connect physical materials, digital records, and institutional trust

REEM ASBL supports the development of standards for responsible sourcing, chain-of-custody documentation, proof-of-reserve attestations, custody verification, digital provenance, and ecosystem participation.

These standards are intended to help participants demonstrate that tokenized critical materials are responsibly sourced, properly verified, auditable, and aligned with recognized international frameworks — including OECD responsible mineral supply-chain guidance, Responsible Minerals Initiative frameworks, and ISO environmental standards.

Standards domains

Responsible sourcing

Frameworks for evaluating originators, refiners, and supply-chain participants — covering due diligence, conflict-affected and high-risk areas, human-rights expectations, and grievance mechanisms.

ESG and environmental standards

Alignment with environmental management, social responsibility, and governance practices, including ISO 14001 environmental management principles.

Traceability

Support for verifiable provenance, documentation, and digital asset-level traceability across the lifecycle from originator to industrial user.

Proof and verification

Standards for audits, attestations, custody verification, proof-of-reserve mechanisms, and public reporting.

Certification

Future certification programmes are intended to allow ecosystem participants to demonstrate conformance with REEM standards through independent third-party assessment.

Market integrity

Reporting frameworks, transparency mechanisms, and data standards that support market integrity without REEM ASBL operating as a market participant.

Approach to standard development

Standards are developed through committees and working groups, with public consultation where appropriate, and references to internationally recognised frameworks. Drafts, public comments, and adopted versions may be published as the ecosystem matures.
